COOKIE POLICY

Last updated July 5, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Alula ("we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies to recognize you and to make our website at https://www.alulaplan.ca (the "Website") work. It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and how you can control them.

In some cases, cookies and similar technologies may collect information that is, or that becomes, personal information when combined with other information. For details on how we handle personal information generally, see our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small data files that a website places on your computer or mobile device when you visit. Cookies are widely used to make websites work or work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide reporting information.

Cookies set by the website you are visiting (in this case, Alula) are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called "third-party cookies." Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality on or through the website, such as analytics.

In addition to cookies, the Alula retirement planning tool also uses browser storage technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage. These are similar to cookies in purpose — they store small amounts of information in your browser — but they are not technically cookies. We use them primarily to retain your inputs as you progress through the retirement planning tool, so that you can continue your session, refresh the page, or come back without losing your work. This information is stored on your device, under your control, and is never transmitted to our servers as part of routine page navigation.

For convenience, we use the word "cookies" in this policy to refer to cookies and similar browser storage technologies.

Why do we use cookies?

We use cookies for the following purposes:

Strictly necessary

These cookies and similar browser storage technologies are essential for the Website and the retirement planning tool to function. They enable core features such as remembering your inputs as you progress through the tool (including through local storage and session storage), maintaining your session, remembering your cookie preferences, and supporting the security of the Website. Without these technologies, the Services would not work properly. Strictly necessary cookies and storage cannot be disabled through our cookie consent tool.

We store your cookie preference choice in a first-party cookie named fiplan_cookie_consent. This cookie is strictly necessary so we can remember whether you have accepted or rejected analytics cookies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our Website — for example, which pages are visited, how long users stay, and roughly where in the world they are accessing us from. This helps us improve the Services. Google Analytics sets its own cookies on your device only if you accept analytics cookies through our cookie consent banner. Google Analytics does not load until you opt in. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by choosing Essential only in our cookie consent tool or reopening your preferences on this page.

We do not use cookies for targeted advertising, and we do not allow third parties to use our Website for targeted advertising.

Other tracking technologies (web beacons and pixels)

In addition to cookies, websites and emails sometimes use small graphics files called web beacons, tracking pixels, or clear GIFs. These help measure things like email open rates and traffic patterns. Where we use these technologies, they are typically set by the same providers we use for analytics or email, and your cookie preferences will generally also apply to them.

How can you control cookies?

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies that are not strictly necessary.

Cookie consent tool

When you first visit the Website, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the page. You can choose Accept all to allow analytics cookies, or Essential only to use the Website without analytics cookies. Your choice is stored in the fiplan_cookie_consent cookie for up to one year.

You can change your preferences at any time using the button below. Strictly necessary cookies and browser storage (including local storage used by the retirement planning tool) cannot be rejected because they are required for the Services to function.

Browser settings

You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers accept cookies by default but allow you to block or delete them. The means of doing so vary from browser to browser; see your browser's help menu for instructions. The following are the support pages for popular browsers:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • Edge

Note that if you choose to block all cookies, some parts of the Website (including the retirement planning tool) may not work correctly.

Do we serve targeted advertising?

No. We do not use cookies or other tracking technologies to serve targeted advertisements, and we do not allow third parties to do so on our Website.

How often will we update this Cookie Policy?

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The date at the top of this Cookie Policy indicates when it was last updated. We encourage you to revisit this page periodically.
